Gilberto Guzman, in his late seventies and still painting, was the Absolut Statehood campaign artist for New Mexico. The paintings exhibited here were created from 1991 to 1993 when Guzman’s subject matter was inspired by his family on a farm in Cucamonga where they worked harvesting grapes, chili peppers and corn. These large acrylics depict the hard work of the fields and the simple life in bold forms swirling with energy and color. Though his subject matter has changed throughout his career, his canvases are instantly recognizable as colorful, joyous and life affirming..
